Interestingly, trichomes are composed of between 13% and 60% silicon, serving as the plant's primary mechanical barrier to protect against solar radiation. Application can be done in two ways: as protection against fungi on the stem, apply directly to produce silicon crystals, and as an irrigation treatment for direct absorption by the plant.
