This sage bundle is decorated with rose petals of different colors, each symbolizing one of the 7 chakras of the human body. It is preferably used in purification rituals for people.
White sage
It is a renowned medicinal and aromatic plant: its scientific name is Salvia apiana, from the Latin salvare - to heal. Most of its properties are concentrated in the leaves, which absorb solar energy and produce a large amount of essential oils.
Celtic druids used it to increase their wisdom and during their healing and protection rituals. Many Native American cultures smudged with sage to purify body and spirit.
The 7 chakras
Located along the spinal column, chakras - "wheels" in Sanskrit - are the energy centers that distribute vital energy in the human body. Each chakra, represented within a lotus flower, has a unique function and healing power.
7th - Crown Chakra - Violet - Spirituality and self-knowledge.
6th - Third Eye Chakra - Indigo - Intuition and mental clarity.
5th - Throat Chakra - Blue - Expression and transcendence.
4th - Heart Chakra - Green - Love and compassion.
3rd - Solar Plexus Chakra - Yellow - Personal power and growth.
2nd - Sacral Chakra - Orange - Sensuality and emotions.
1st - Root Chakra - Red - Identity and security.
Recently, Western scientists have confirmed the correspondence of the chakras with the 7 main nerve ganglia that emerge from the spinal column. It is said that when our chakras are open and activated, we lead a balanced and fulfilling life.
Cultivation
Our plants are harvested from both natural spaces and cultivated fields. Regardless of their origin, the harvesters have legal authorization to do so. The process is simple: they cut the branches and leave the roots to allow for future harvests. Exports are controlled by the USDA (U.S. Department of Agriculture), which certifies that all legal and environmental requirements are met.
The growth of the plants depends on the climate and annual rainfall. The size of the bundles, therefore, can vary from one harvest to another: a difficult season and less abundant harvests result in smaller bundles. In drought years, the concentration of essential oils is higher.
How to use the bundle
The purification ritual is a universal practice.
1. You need a bundle of dried sage tied with cotton, a feather or fan, and a heat-resistant bowl for collecting ash, such as an abalone shell.
2. Light one end of the bundle, preferably with a match. Blow to fan the flame and let it extinguish. Be careful of sparks! Then place it on the shell.
3. Smudging: bring the smoke close to the people participating in the ritual. With the feather, direct it towards each chakra, intending to heal and purify it.
Remember that intention is the basis of any smudging: if your heart is pure and your desire noble, you will enhance its effects.
Ventilate after use. Do not inhale smoke directly.
