Traditional hash plant from the Rif region of Ketama and Chefchaouen, famous for producing kif (a traditional blend of cannabis flowers with tobacco) and the renowned Moroccan 'blonde pollen'. This pure Moroccan variety is one of the fastest psychoactive Sativas on the planet, due to its semi-autoflowering characteristics and very short flowering time. Traditionally, this variety is sown in early spring, beginning to flower in June and being harvested as early as August, when it begins to be processed and beaten by hand to produce traditional Moroccan hashish, which varies in quality depending on the sieve size and the number of beatings the flowers receive. Moroccan plants are small/medium in size. They start with slightly broad leaves, but upon reaching sexual maturity and flowering, they develop as a pure Sativa with elongated floral structures that quickly accumulate to form good-sized buds. We find 2 main phenotypes based on their structure. The most common phenotype grows very columnar and tall, while there is also a second, smaller, shorter, and more branched phenotype. This variety is cultivated in its place of origin with a high density of plants, little fertilizer, and little water, which has allowed it to develop excellent resistance to heat and drought. It thrives with minimal care and low nutrient levels, making it an ideal variety for outdoor guerrilla cultivation in hot and dry climates. Morocco is the world's largest producer of hashish, with its prized hashish being the most exported, especially in Europe. Unfortunately, since the beginning of the 21st century, there has been a massive introduction of foreign indoor genetics from Europe and North America into Morocco, with the aim of increasing hashish production and potency. While this has been achieved in certain plots where these foreign genetics are cultivated with more care, genetic contamination has also led to Moroccan hashish gradually losing its characteristic psychoactivity and distinctive 'golden' and honeyed terpenes, which made Moroccan hashish a global benchmark in the cannabis scene of the 20th century. Some Moroccan growers have realized that these new foreign genetics require much more care, more water, and fertilizers, are harvested much later than traditional Moroccan varieties, and do not have the same resistance to heat and outdoor pests. The old Moroccan varieties are still the most suitable for cultivation in distant, large plots with poorer irrigation resources and that cannot be attended with as much care. It is for this reason that a group of 'old-school' Moroccan growers offered us ancient Moroccan seeds for reproduction and preservation, before unstoppable genetic contamination completely eliminates the old Moroccan varieties in their original state.
