Horsetail contains a toxic Saponin for fungi called “Equisetonin” and Silicic acid, which promotes plant structure. In addition to these components, it also contains Flavonoids such as “Isoquercitrin”, “Galuteolin”, or “Equisetrin”. Finally, its richness in certain organic acids such as Nicotine, Palustrine, or Dimethylsulfone is noteworthy. All these components make Horsetail one of the most effective fungicides in organic farming; it is even recognized for some insecticidal action against aphids and red spider mites.
