It arrived in the Netherlands from South Africa and was cross-bred for many years during the 1970s. With each generation, Durban Poison became increasingly adapted to the rainy and windy conditions of northern Europe. During the breeding process, some unknown Indica genetics were crossed with Durban. Initially, it shows broad, Indica-style leaves, but the growth pattern allows Sativa dominance to appear at the end with long blooms interspersed with thin, Sativa-style leaves. Indoors, Durban Poison is ready for harvest in 8 to 9 weeks. Outdoors, it can reach 2 to 3 meters in height and is harvested in early autumn. With sufficient root space, Durban develops strong side branches that will support heavy, resinous flowers. The plant's development, the appearance of the harvest, and the stimulating and energizing high are typically Sativa. Durban Poison has a hazy, spicy flavor with hints of anise, liquor, and cloves. The buds are often dark green and resistant to mold and pests. It is a very potent, consistent, and high-yielding plant.
