Lemon juice is injected into irrigation water to treat clogging caused by calcium carbonate (lime) and magnesium precipitation. Water with a pH of 7.5 or higher and a bicarbonate level of more than 100 ppm will likely present lime precipitation problems, depending on water hardness. The amount of calcium and magnesium determines this hardness. It is classified as follows:
Soft: 0 to 60 ppm of calcium and magnesium
Moderate: 61 to 120 ppm
Hard: 121 to 180 ppm
Very Hard: more than 180 ppm
Almost all ecological product fumigation treatments must be carried out at a pH of around 6.5, which is why lemon juice is essential; in fact, pH values other than 6.5 greatly influence the effectiveness of the treatment.
Concentrated lemon juice has a pH of 2.2 (vinegar is around 3), so the amounts applied for correction are minimal; in any case, it depends on the type of water, the desired pH, and the initial pH, etc.; all of this means that this process should always be controlled with the use of a pH meter or controller.
METHOD OF APPLICATION
The acid is usually injected after the filter, so that it does not cause corrosion in it, except if it is made of polyethylene.
DOSAGE
pH correction: The amount of acid to be used depends on the chemical characteristics of the irrigation water, so a pH meter must be used throughout the process until the desired level is achieved, always measuring it at the ends of the hose.
Pipe cleaning: 500 ml per cubic meter.
